William A. Burhans, President and CEO
A. Burhans is a former US Air Force political-military affairs officer, analyst, and voice intercept processing specialist
who spent more than 28 years on active duty.
He was born in Syracuse, New York and is a graduate of Hobart College,
Geneva, New York. Bill enlisted in the USAF in January 1957 and graduated from a six-month Basic Russian Language Course at
the Army Language School at the Presidio of Monterey, California. Upon completion, he was assigned with the USAF Security
Service in West Germany.
Bill returned from Germany and completed nine months of Intermediate Russian language training
at Syracuse University. He then became an instructor at the USAF Security Service School in Texas, at which time he was given
the opportunity to become an officer. He received his reserve commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in August of 1963 and was augmented
into the Regular Air Force a short time later.
His officer assignments included a four-year tour of duty as Presidential
Translator on the Moscow-Washington Hot Line, one year as an Interrogation Officer in South Vietnam, and two tours of duty
as a Liaison Officer with the United States Military Liaison Mission accredited to the Commander-in-Chief, Group of Soviet
Forces in Germany, stationed in Potsdam in the former Soviet Zone of Germany (East Germany). His final active duty assignment
was as Deputy Director of Soviet Affairs, Air Force Intelligence Service at Bolling AFB, D. C.
Bill formed RUSS-ENG
Translations, Inc. in 1982 and has continually operated his company since that time. He did take a five-year break from his
company to accept a position with Baker Hughes Incorporated, a major US oilfield services and equipment company . Bill served
as Head of Representation in the Baker Hughes Incorporated Moscow Representation Office from 1997-2002. He was elected as
a Director on the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia in 2001.
